'soak' and 'mountaintop rain' are two of the other four songs that were part of the original set of 10 back in 2009. so they are b-sides more than outtakes, leftovers. there is no reason in particular why they weren't included on The Waiting, so here they are, continuing with the same themes of death, love and hope. 'soak' is a bitter political rant of a folk song while 'mountaintop rain' is a delicate secular spiritual. both songs have featured regularly in greg's live performances.
